• 5th August - The Spray Mine Tunnel
    The Spray Mine Tunnel at Zeehan has been closed permanently. It is to be upgraded to a boardwalked tourist feature. Ultimately it is planned to run a train from Zeehan township to the Tunnel and back. Typically, no Governmental notice was given to 4WD Tasmania. Pat M.
  • 30th May - Mt McCall UPdate
    Mt Mc Call to be worked on next week and will reopen w/e 3/6/2010. Possum Ck. bridge in APCA to be reinstated within 4 weeks. Pat M.
  • 14th May - Possum Ck. Bridge
    The Possum Ck. bridge at the turnoff to the Balfour track has been removed due to a broken bearer. The adjacent ford has been cleared out and a depth guage put in place. Can get dangerously deep after heavy rain.
  • 29th April - Mt McCall 4WD track
    From PWS Queenstown - this is to notify all clubs that there is a potential landslip on the Mt McCall road, (approx 5 klm from the gate) to ensure visitor safety we have closed access to the track until proper assessment by a geotechnician and then a resolution is found. It is uncertain the time frame for this closure, however we will endeavour to have the road opened as quickly as possible. Sandra Beams - PWS Queenstown
  • 14th April - URGENT – Proposed Arthur Pieman Closure
    Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service have produced a document called the 'Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area - Sustainable Recreational Vehicle Access - Draft Report 2010' which proposes to CLOSE A NUMBER OF TRACKS in this area. Public comment closes on the 7th MAY so act NOW – click here for more info.
  • 9th March - Old Bermuda Rd - Seasonal Closure
    The Boom gate located on the Northern End of Old Bermuda Rd will be closed between the 1st of August and the 31st of January each year to accomodate the breeding patterns of Wedge Tail Eagles that nest in the area. Forestry Tas will be erecting signs in the area displaying this information in the near future. Pat M.
  • 5th March - Ring River - New Signage
    Following discussion with NW FT Technical Officer Leigh Clark, I drafted words to form signage at either end of Ring River. The alternative was closure due to Govt. instrumentalities having to extricate vehicles in trouble on the track. Apparently this track has become very difficult and my suggested info. reflects this and also that recovery is the responsibility of the driver(s). Pat M.
  • 1st March - Barnback Ridge is Clear
    Trekka 4WD Club cleared a fallen tree from Barnback Ridge on Sunday 28th and it is all clear now.
  • 22nd February - Southern Loop Track signs
    Forestry are still working on erecting all the signs for the tracks. Colin Duggan has been tasked with this and will complete shortly
  • 22nd February - Williamette Creek - Tree across
    4WDTas has been contacted by Forestry and Adrian Coulson will be clearing the tree from the Williamette Creek track shortly
  • 12th February - Track Works in Aurthur Pieman Area
    From the week beginning 15 February 2010 Cradle Coast NRM contractors will be undertaking track management and rehabilitation works in the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area between Old Kelp Track heading south to Greenes Creek. These works will continue through February, March and April 2010. There may be some delays encountered and heavy machinery in these areas. Cradle Coast NRM sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.     The minutes section has been updated with the September 2009 Southern Branch Meeting minutes.
  • 15th October - Track Changes
    This summer there will be maintenance work on 8 areas of the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area. Works will include removal of braiding and the erection of fencing to protect cultural and natural heritage areas. These works are not part of the proposed draft Off-road APCA document, but rather ongoing maintenance to enable sustainability in the relevant areas. Also note that the Mt. McCall track is now back open and keys to it can be collected from Parks in Strahan or Queenstown during business hours. (08:30 hrs. to 09:30hrs. Mon.-Fri) Collection can be organised out of hours by prior arrangement with Queenstown.
  • 4th October - Mt Huxley Track Access (ammended)
    Our state environment officer would like to inform all users of the Mt Huxley track on the West Coast, that it is now under the management of Forestry Tasmania. Seeing Forestry may not recognise this as an existing 4WD Track users are encouraged to push to use it and should not be discouraged from using this track.
